Unsung Hero Award
This category is designed to recognise a health and safety or fire safety practitioner
who has made a significant contribution to the implementation or enhancement of
health, safety or wellbeing standards within either their own or a client organisation.
This is a new category and has been introduced in memory of Alan McArthur who
sadly passed away last year and had dedicated his life to innovating and
implementing improvements in health and safety.
Robert Saile – Ravenair
Rpbert is operations manager for Ravenair who are based at
Liverpool John Lennon Airport. He was asked by his
Managing Director to revamp Health and Safety within the
Company. The outcome has been enhancement in facilities,
structure, administration, paperwork, procedures and staff
members have properly engaged in H&S,
John Cairns – Scottish Fire & Rescue Heritage Trust
John Cairns has spent his entire 45 year career to raising the
bar for safety standards. He's sat on many voluntary groups
such as Safety Groups UK, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service
Heritage Trust to help raise awareness for health and safety
and fire safety. He's raised thousands of pounds for industryrelated
charities and is respected across the sector.
Sheila Grant - ContourMC Ltd
Sheila is an amazing occupational health and safety
practitioner. As a Nurse and H&S Director with combined
experience of over 36yrs she has offered specialised advice
and support for both health and safety to hundreds of
organisations, including the smallest. She is also uniquely
qualified in HR and Quality Management. (50 words
Henk Vanhoutte – European Safety Federation
Henk is Secretary General of the European Safety Federation
he works tirelessly to improve standards and overall
occupational safety in regards to legislative EU changes. He
was also heavily involved in the recent PPE Regs update.
Fred Charlton – RPE2Fit
No one lives and breaths UK Respiratory protection better
than Fred Charlton. After 35 years (and counting) in the
industry, ask anyone in the market who the go to guy is for
any advice, or introductions, and Fred will be your man.

John Gill – Uvex Safety
John has played a huge role in leading and developing uvex,
building a culture of organisational excellence, As chair of the
BSIF, he leads the Federation which is made up of 290
companies and as such John is at the forefront of the UK
Safety industry with his involvement.
Sarah McOnie – McOnie
Sarah has had a successful career spanning over 30 years,
working with some of the world's leading safety organisations
to promote health and safety as a force for good. Her
initiatives and creative ideas have delivered compelling
communications campaigns, increasing awareness of critical
issues in occupational health and well-being.
Gul Kapur – Telefonica UK
Gul is extremely passionate about H&S. Her dedication, drive,
on-going support and commitment has greatly benefited ISS
and Telefonica. Gul has played a significant role in changing
attitudes about the importance of managing risks, both at
work and outside. Gul has reinforced her credibility with
senior managers and her colleagues.
Teresa Swinton - Paradigm Human Performance
Teresa's 25 contribution has never been formally recognised
because she always pushes her team and peers forward before
claiming recognition for herself. This last 2 years in business
have been challenging but she remains steadfast in her
commitment to her work and her service to her customers.
